1st Place - Rafael Gonzalez - $23,144

Rafael Gonzalez became a force in the 2016 Turlock Poker Room Championship Series $75,000 Guaranteed Main Event when he came from behind against Aram Alexander 88 v 99 and he turned an 8 for the knockout and a top-3 stack with 18 players remaining.

Gonzalez remained solid throughout the final table, going in to heads-up play with about a 1.2 million chip deficit to Rick Peterson. The two friends agreed to take $20,000 each and play heads-up for the remaining $3,144 in the prize pool and the Championship Trophy.

The lead went back and forth a few times, with Peterson and Gonzalez turning trips on one hand and Peterson getting a boat on the river. Gonzalez came out on top in the end, with Peterson taking second-place honors.

The two players end up 7th and 8th overall in the Player of the Series race as well, with Peterson one place higher than Gonzalez.

In a blind v blind pot, Erik Matulis moves all in on the flop of Kc Kc Kc and Rick Peterson makes the call to put Matulis at risk.

Matulis - Kc Kc for two pair
Paterson - Kc Kc for the same two pair wiht a better kicker.

Really, they BOTH had a 4?

The turn is Kc and Matulis finishes 3rd, cashing for $11,589

4th Place - Ed Miller - $8,577

@edH8s2Looz Miller, Rafael Gonzalez and Rick Peterson all see a flop of Kc Kc Kc.

Miller - the shortstack - moves all-in and Gonzalez says "call," almost before Miller can finish saying 'All-in." Peterson gets out of the way.

Gonzalez - Kc Kc "huge call, this is a huge call," Gonzalez says as he turns over his cards to show a flush draw and a gutshow straight draw.

"You're way ahead of me," says Miller, who turns over Kc Kc for a the same straight draw and a backdoor flush draw that's a worse draw than Gonzalez has, so don't look at that flush draw for Miller, folks.

The turn is Kc, Miller is drawing to four outs to a chop and 3 FTW.

The river is Kc and Miller is the 4th place finisher, cashing for $8,577.

Armando Perez - 2016 Series Champion

Two wins and five cashes later, Armando Perez takes down the 2016 Championship Series Player of the Year title. Perez takes home a trophy, a custom Turlock Poker Room jacket, has a photo shoot coming for a banner of him to hang in the poker room .. and the biggest prize of all ... one complimentary entry in to every Turlock Poker Room tournament from Dec. 1, 2016 through Nov. 30, 2017 - a YEAR'S worth of tournament entries.

Perez had a Main Event sweat, however, as Tim Weimer, Ken Kajioka, Mike Jobe and Brent Bixby could all have taken the title with a Main Event win and Perez not cashing in the Main. Well, Perez left teh toor slightly ajar when he busted a few shy of the money, but the win was secured when Weimer was teh last challenger to be knockedout, in 14th place.

Weimer finished as runner-up in the chase, while Kajioka cashed in 7 of the 9 tournaments he played in, securing third place in the Player of the Series race. Here are the top 3 in points for the series.

Armando Perez 302
Tim Weimer 225.7
Ken Kajioka 205.3

Main Event a Family Affair

@TurlockPoker Main Event was won in 2014 and 2015 by the Xiong Family - Mai in '14 and brother Tou in '15 - and now Rafael Gonzalez is playing the Family Card 4-handed as his rail consists of (from left) his wife, his mother and his sister.

Any coincidence that he took the chiplead as soon as they showed up?

Family first ....

6th Place - George Odihambo - $5,151

Erik Matulis makes it 100,000 on the Kc Kc Kc flop and George Odihambo (above) flats, leaving him about 370,000 behind - with the pot at 400,000 now.

Matulis moves all in on the Kc turn and Odihambo snap-calls.

Matulis turns over Kc Kc and Odihambo is almost unable to act or react, so he's most likely drawing dead. He takes about 15 seconds, and turns over Kc Kc and he is drawing dead.

Odihambo finishes 6th, cashing for $5,151.

AA v. KK, Almost

Rick Peterson opens for 75,000 and Ed Miller Calls from the BB. Miller leads out for 100,000 on the Kc Kc Kc flop, and Peterson (above) makes it 225,000 by sliding seven 25k chips right at Miller, then looking over his glasses to see the reaction.

Peterson looks incredibly strong with that move - you know what they say, when a player spreads a bet directly at the opponent its i a sign of strength and when spread away it's a sign of weakness.

Miller (below) looks pained, and says he should have shoved preflop and now he's glad he did not, as he mucks face down while saying he had KK.

Peterson shows Kc Kc for what would have been the end of Miller had he shoved preflop. Peterson's final-table-long heater continues and he's now to 2,000,000

Dondi Dismer moves all in for his last 360,000 and Rafael Gonzalez gets a count. Gonzalez finds a fold, but Rick Peterson does call and he's off to the races with Dismer (above) whio is at risk.

Dismer - Kc Kc
Peterson - Kc Kc

Peterson claps had when he sees the Kc in the wondow, but it is followed out by Kc Kc and Ed Miller quickly points out that Dismer has the flush draw.

The turn is Kc and the Kc gives Peterson a boat over the two pair of Dismer.
